What You'll Learn

Classical & Contemporary Pilates Foundations

  • Study the core principles of Contrology - breath, control, centering, flow, precision, and concentration; through the lens of awareness and energetic alignment.

  • Learn the 34 original mat exercises, as taught by Joseph Pilates in Return to Life Through Contrology, and explore intelligent progressions for diverse populations.

  • Develop a functional movement vocabulary with modifications, variations, and mindful sequencing designed to adapt to real bodies and varying ability levels, includes exercise terminology.

  • Learn how the Elements Theory from TCM can apply to the Classical 34 pilates moves.

  • Integrate the yogic lens of Svadhyaya (self-study) and Tapas (disciplined effort) to approach the work with clarity, intention depth and dedication.

  • Anatomical Principles in Pilates — Interwoven with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Multi-Barre Based Movements

  • Created in 2015, Multi Barre is rooted in physiotherapy-inspired rehab movements and grounded in mindful, functional fitness.

  • Blend Multi-Barre techniques with Pilates alignment principles to create low-impact, high-intensity sequences that sculpt, tone, and stabilize.

  • Use props like bands, weights, balls, chairs, and barres to amplify proprioception and muscular endurance, while respecting the body's natural biomechanics.

  • Embrace Ahimsa (non-harming) by layering in accessible options that promote inclusivity, safety, and balance.

  • Classes are designed to honor energy cycles and build internal fire (Agni) while staying grounded in conscious movement.

Yoga & Mobility Integration

  • Begin and end every practice with breath-led yoga flows, gently preparing the body and nervous system for dynamic movement and deep release.

  • Emphasize joint health, spinal fluidity, and mobility through mindful stretching and range-of-motion exploration rooted in the Koshas (layers of being).

  • Encourage a felt sense of interoception and somatic presence, connecting movement to Prana (life force) and the wisdom of subtle energy.

  • Movement becomes a tool for resilience, Santosha (contentment), and emotional flow.

Breathwork & Mindfulness

  • Learn foundational breath practices like 3-Part Breath, Kapalabhati, and Coherent Breathing to support nervous system regulation and core connection.

  • Practice mindfulness in cueing, sequencing, and presence, cultivating Dharana (concentration) and compassionate awareness in both self and students.

  • Teaching language emphasizes Trauma-Informed principles, inclusive language, and creating a sacred container for personal and collective transformation.

  • Breath becomes the bridge between body and spirit, between movement and meaning.

Applied Anatomy & Biomechanics

  • Explore the anatomy of the core, spine, breath, and major joints through a functional and embodied lens.

  • Study muscle recruitment, fascial tension, and alignment patterns, with direct application to the movements of Pilates, Barre, and Yoga.

Focus on injury prevention, intuitive cueing, and safe modifications for chronic conditions, pregnancy, and post-rehab students.

  • Use body reading and somatic assessment to cultivate clarity, confidence, and connection in your teaching.

Somatics
Somatics is the practice of tuning into the internal experience of the body. Rather than focusing solely on form or external alignment, somatics invites mindful attention to sensation, breath, and movement from within - activating the body’s natural ability to self-correct, release tension, and build resilience.
Includes:

  • The history of somatics (Thomas Hanna, Feldenkrais, etc.)

  • Its relevance to nervous system health

  • Why it matters in movement education today

Elemental Sequencing: The 5 TCM-Inspired Signature Classes
Each Prana Pilates Signature Class is inspired by one of the Five Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, and aligns the energetic body with seasonal themes, meridian pathways, and emotional balance.

  • Wood: Expand, rise, and grow. Think lateral lines, twists, and liver/gallbladder flow.

  • Fire: Ignite joy and expression. Heart openers, cardio bursts, and upper body flow.

  • Earth: Ground, stabilize, and center. Focused on core, digestion, and support.

  • Metal: Refine, release, and strengthen boundaries. Breath, posture, and precision.

  • Water: Surrender, restore, and soften. Deep fascia release, hips, and spinal waves.

These sequences provide a framework for seasonal living, intuitive teaching, and energetic harmony, integrating the wisdom of Yoga’s Chakra system with the meridian maps of the East.
